So. Apple juice and beer are pretty good together if the sales numbers are to be believed. Quite a few things have happened since the experiments I’ve been conducting and I think it’s safe to say that I really enjoy the interaction between the acids in apple juice and the base malts that are used […]
One of the most recent brewing experiments taking place in the labs revolves around the current fad-but-not-really-fad drink: the radler. A radler is traditionally lager that is split with a citrus soda, and is (in my opinion), incredibly delicious on hot day. It’s fantastic for quenching thirst after a long bike ride (hence the radler […]
I’ve been experimenting with a few things lately: brut-style beers, session beers, kettle-souring. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some results soon, but I’m currently working on developing a brut DIPA, and I think it will turn out nicely! Most of the experiments are conducted at home, at MSU Denver’s Beer Industry Program labs, or […]
A lot has happened since the 2017-2018 academic year. I’ve changed positions at MSU Denver, but for a very good reason: I was denied tenure under dubious (read: discriminatory) circumstances. I was threatened by the chair of the Retention/Tenure/Promotion (RTP) committee and the chair of my department, and the tenured faculty chose to evaluate me […]
Moving. Shaking.
Much has changed in the past year, and the chemistry research group is dissolving. I am leaving the chemistry department and joining the beer industry program full time, with a split appointment with Tivoli Brewing Company in downtown Denver. I’m excited about the new venture, and the research website will be changing to reflect […]
Graduating Members
We regret to see the departure of Val Toman and Hannah Goulding, but we all wish them the best of luck, and a bright future in whatever they choose to pursue! We hope it is more chemistry, if not liquid crystals research. 🙂 Congratulations to each of them!
Technique Videos
Simple, routine organic chemistry techniques have been added to the Presentations and Posters in a separate section. You can view the laboratory technique videos there. Hopefully more will be added as time goes on.
New Members!
Welcome to Julia Blackmon and Hannah Goulding. 🙂 Hopefully we can accomplish great things in the lab!
Welcome to New Members!
Welcome to the newest members of the Tsai research Group: Dania El-Batal and Val Toman! We expect big things from the two of you. 🙂
Department Seminar
The Department of Chemistry seminar on September 25th will be courtesy of the Tsai Research Group. Dr. Tsai will be presenting recent research plans and results at 2pm, in SI3079. The talk is a public event and the general public is encouraged to attend, in addition to MSU Denver students and faculty.
